So much to do, so little time….already!

It has only been around a week and a half of classes and I can’t stress enough how unbelievably stressed I am already! I knew when I first begun the second year of Advertising that this would probably be the most overwhelming year, but I didn’t actually believe it would begin this fast. I almost wish my elective was this semester so I could take that “Coping with Stress” class already…haha!

Never the less though, it’s been a good start to the school year! Amazing events have taken place so far, and don’t worry more will come in time. Girlicious performed this week, as did The Arkells and a few more local bands, and last night (which I went to) was the hilarious man known as Tony Lee! If you don’t know who he is, he is the XXX hypnotist…I could sit here forever and dish about all the stuff he does but that would ruin the show for you if you ever went (which i suggest you DO!!!) so for now, just take a look at his facebook page and lurk some of his photos, that’ll be more than enough to peak your interest. He’ll be coming back for another show in the Winter semester as well, and lastnight he did mention he was going to try something different this time around.

I think Mohawk’s events that take place help relieve some of my stress…so my advice is to definitely give it a try if you already want to pull out all of your hair! Also, consider purchasing something that you will cherish for a lifetime. Last year my residence roommate and I exchanged Christmas gifts (after we decked out our kitchen table with a mini tree and more decor) and she bought me the most helpful bottle of magic for just ten bucks! Wonderful for a student budget, especially since you may use this every night. At Bath and Body Works there are a plethora of aromatherapy sprays that you simply spray on your pillow before bed and it soothes and calms the nerves to relieve the tension you may have that night. Check it out: If you give it a try let me know and inform me on how well it may work, or doesn’t work for you. Everyone may react to it differently.

Well, as the title even states, I already have so much to do with so so so little time. So I’m off to start my friday morning with a ton of assignments! I’ll post more later, when I’m not on stress overload.

Cherish your sleep,
Lu Ann :)

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Sorry for the delay in a new blog entry! I just got back from a mini vacation before school started so I am taking my time to create this piece now while still unpacking some of my clothes into my new student housing! :)

It appears it’s the most wonderful time of the year….. (being an Ad student I figured I’d sing out the back to school tune of the Staples Commercial every year) For those of you who don’t recognize what I’m speaking of I took the liberty to search for it on youtube. Trust me, you’ll recognize it ASAP. Staples’ Commercial

There are a plethora of things to know about back to school events at Mohawk College, especially if you’re a first year student.

First off, save money this week, and don’t purchase numerous amounts of groceries when you could take advantage of Orientation Week (more commonly known as Frosh Week). This week is completely FREE! That’s right, you’re not seeing this there ladies and gents… F R E E …. FREE! Free giveways of tote bags, pens, lanyards, shirts, highlighters, stickynotes, and bbq hotdogs, pancakes, concerts, etc! These giveways may vary each year, but you’re guaranteed a fun filled, affordable week.

Secondly, head out to school on your program’s official Orientation day. It will help you adjust to the Mohawk College atmosphere and will get rid of some nervousness for the first day of school. You are able to meet your professors, most of your fellow classmates, find your classes ahead of time, and learn a lot of helpful things about your program that you may not have known about already. Remember, you’re at school to get a good education, for a good career. So treat your education like your career already, and take initiative!

Thirdly, and my favourite part of all time, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE INEXPENSIVE BUS PASS. Mohawk College now offers this amazing experience that everyone, not just first years, could use. For way less than $200.00 for the 8 month school year the freedom with the Hamilton Bus Pass is now in all of our hands. Get your student ID card fast with the new Hamilton Bus sticker on it and start exploring your new city of Hamilton! There are probably a lot of things you don’t know about this… “Steel City”…for instance, did you know Hamilton is the City of Waterfalls? With over 100 of them! City of Waterfalls Were you aware of the strip of many bars Hamilton had downtown as well? Hess Village And my favourite, cutest street ever! Locke Street It’s filled with tons of small businesses such as music stores, restaurants, barber shops, tea shops, home décor, clothing, etc. I always feel like I’m in some small town in a European country when I take a stroll down it. The street even has an annual festival, which will run this Saturday, September 11th, 2010. Check out their festival site as well for what is to be at it other than me! :) Locke Street Festival

So don’t just stick around in your dorm room, or student housing with nothing to do this year because Mohawk College has given you no excuses now! Quit struggling to find change for a bus ride. There is no more need to tearing apart the couch to see if you can find nickels, dimes, and quarters. Use your time wisely this year and go out and explore. Enjoy Locke Street, take your homework down there and sit on a Patio and do it, or even the Starbucks on the street as well. I hope to see some of you there, and ALL of you the first day back to school!
